My Journey
Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo
I was born in the Dominican Republic and migrated to the United States in 2014. Adapting to a new culture, language, and lifestyle was challenging, but it has profoundly shaped who I am today. I am grateful for all the educators and social workers I met along the way who supported me in this journey.
I completed my Bachelor's in Social Work with a Minor in Sociology at the CUNY Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in May 2021. I completed my Master's in Social Work with a clinical concentration at Fordham University in May 2024.
My journey began as an academic peer mentor at Guttman Community College, serving first-generation college students. I have since served my community in various roles, including Family Coordinator, Clinical Social Work Intern, Recruitment & Retention Specialist, Mentor, Facilitator, and Community Organizer and now I serve as a Restorative Justice School Social Worker for the NYC Department of Education.
I am a Yoga Alliance certified 200-hour Yoga Teacher and a Trauma-Informed Wellness Practitioner, integrating holistic approaches into my practice. I have completed a 16-hour Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training with Exhale to Inhale, earned 11 CE Hours in Trauma-Informed CBT Certification from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2023, and completed 30 CTLE Hours in Restorative Practices: Community Building (Tier 1) with the New York City Department of Education Office of Safety and Youth Development. As a consultant for schools, nonprofit organizations, and hospitals, I facilitate Yoga and Sound Meditation trauma-informed workshops.
I am passionate about Sound Meditation, chanting yogic mantras, sustainability, and exploring the connection between Animal Rights Theory and the systemic discrimination of minorities. I enjoy working with immigrants, guiding them to share their own stories, just as I did when I first came to the U.S.
My LMSW is pending, and I hold a New York State Provisional Certification as a School Social Worker. I am currently pursuing a Post-Master’s Bilingual Extension in Spanish as a School Social Worker at Hunter College.
I am dedicated to learning more about mental health assessment and aspire to work in a clinical practice part-time in the future, empowering individuals to reach their highest potential.
